Envision a world where implementing an XML content and document management solution does not require complex proprietary tools that can only be used by XML experts. With ALiCE (i4i's Authoring Lifecycle Collaboration Environment), i4i delivers on that vision. ALiCE is a suite of modules that reside between underlying content/data stores and end-user applications. ALiCE supports XML content development and collaboration using the following services:
- Change Manager, which supports collaborative authoring in an asynchronous Web environment
- Complex Document Manager, which supports the reuse and sharing of content (document "fragments") across documents
- Metadata Manager, which provides extended functionality to Windows Explorer and web browsers based on document metadata.
- Authoring Integration, which integrates i4i's A4L, Word, and PDF.
Each ALiCE service uses standard web protocols to communicate, so they can be used standalone or configured with each other in any number of manners.*
* All ALiCE services are J2EE. All communication to and between ALiCE services is done using the industry standard HTTP/HTTPS WebDAV protocol.
